Measurements: 78 x 35 x 36 cm.
Baroque sculptural group formed by a couple of torchero angels carved in walnut wood, belonging to the Spanish production of the XVII century and originally conceived for the ceremonial illumination of an altar or liturgical space. The figures, represented in a dynamic attitude and kneeling on clouds, hold in their hands the arms intended to carry candles, masterfully integrating the practical function with the symbolic and decorative language of the Baroque.
The carving reveals a remarkable technical mastery in the treatment of the volumes and the folds of the vestments, resolved with a marked sense of movement and depth, which gives the figures an almost theatrical presence.
This type of torchero angels was widely spread in 17th century Spain, forming an essential part of the Baroque scenographic apparatus, where the light of the candles, supported by angelic figures, contributed to create an atmosphere of solemnity and transcendence. The pair preserves a remarkable stylistic and formal unity, which reinforces its value as a whole.
