DESCRIPTION

"KIEFF" ANTONIO GREDIAGA (Madrid, 1936).
"Nomad H-VI", 1999-2001.
Iron. Unique piece.

Nomad H-VI is inscribed in one of the most representative lines of the mature production of Kieff Antonio Grediaga, centered in the exploration of iron as a material that carries tension, balance and movement. The work is articulated from curved and angular volumes that seem to move in a precarious balance, suggesting a structure in transit, open and dynamic.
The treatment of iron, with rusted surfaces and precise cuts, refers both to the tradition of 20th century constructive sculpture and to a personal poetics of displacement and instability. The term Nomad reinforces this reading: the piece is not presented as a closed form, but as a mutable organism, in constant search of equilibrium.

Kieff Antonio Grediaga took his first steps in art through cabinetmaking, a discipline he learned with his father in the restoration of religious furniture, where he developed a deep understanding of the material and the craft. His exhibition debut took place in 1968 at the Moos Gallery in Montreal, with an exceptional reception that resulted in the total acquisition of the works exhibited and the beginning of a solid international career.
Throughout his career, he has shown his work in galleries and fairs in Canada, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Israel and numerous European countries. Among his most recent exhibitions is El Canto del Hierro (Cádiz, 2022), a sculptural interpretation of Manuel de Falla's Siete canciones populares españolas. In the urban context, his monumental sculpture The Turning Point was presented in Columbus Circle, New York, in 1980.
Kieff's work can be found in institutional collections in Cuba and Spain and is characterized by a diverse production that ranges from small format to monumental sculpture, using materials such as bronze, iron, wood and marble. The Kieff Antonio Grediaga Foundation, with a museum under development in Tendilla (Guadalajara), is currently working on the conservation and dissemination of his artistic legacy.
