DESCRIPTION
SALVADOR MOLLÁ SORIANO (Spain, 1960).
Untitled.
Ceramic and iron base.
Signed with anagram.
Measurements: 40 x 22 x 34 cm; 77 x 25 x 25 x 25 cm (base).
In this sculpture, Salvador Mollá Soriano presents a human figure of contained scale, seated in an introspective attitude on an oxidized iron pedestal that reinforces the verticality and isolation of the body. The ceramic surface, treated with bluish glazes of irregular texture, gives the figure a fragile and almost liquid appearance, in contrast with the industrial solidity of the metal base.
The character holds a set of signs or letters in bright colors, an element that introduces a symbolic dimension linked to language, communication or the accumulation of meanings. The absence of defined facial features universalizes the figure and shifts the attention to the gesture and the object held, suggesting a reflection on the weight of cultural codes and their impact on the contemporary individual.
In Salvador's work, materials are often the protagonists and motors of the creative process.
Salvador Moya has an extensive artistic career that is expressed in various disciplines: drawing, painting, sculpture with different materials and treatments, although he mainly works with ceramics, a material with which he has had a great professional projection, applied in architecture and decoration. It is also common in his work the use of iron, steel, glass, wood, etc. in any of his creations, providing an interesting contrast to his work, and distinguished by the recovery of materials or the conversion of furniture.
