SALVADOR DALÍ (Figueras, Girona, 1904 - 1989).
"Le cabinet anthropomorphique".
Bronze, copy 044/330
Signed and justified.
Measurements: 31,5 x 64 x 16 cm.
Bronze sculpture belonging to one of the most recognizable and significant iconographies of Salvador Dalí's surrealist universe: the human figure crossed by drawers, a direct metaphor of the unconscious. The work represents a reclining body, with an elongated and organic anatomy, whose structure is fragmented by open compartments embedded in the torso. The human being becomes here a cabinet, a psychic piece of furniture that houses desires, memories and hidden drives.
Inspired by the theories of Sigmund Freud, whom Dalí deeply admired, the artist conceived the drawers as symbols of the deepest strata of the mind. "Only psychoanalysis can open those secret drawers," he claimed, underscoring the idea that human identity is composed of hidden layers that can only be revealed through introspection. In Le cabinet anthropomorphique, the unconscious is not an added element, but a constituent part of the body, which appears vulnerable, exposed and subjected to the weight of its own inner content.
This sculpture is in dialogue with other fundamental works by Dalí, such as La Venus de Milo aux tiroirs or Le bureau anthropomorphique, but it is distinguished by its more organic and existential character. In contrast to the violated classical ideal or the eroticized object, here the human body fully assumes its fragmented condition, reflecting a modern vision of the subject marked by psychological instability and the exploration of the self.
Numbered 044/330, signed and justified, made in bronze, a material that reinforces the tension between physical solidity and mental fragility that defines the work. The fact that it belongs to a limited edition, together with its fidelity to the artist's most iconic imagery and its careful sculptural execution, place this piece within the most representative and collectible corpus of Dalí's three-dimensional production.
Salvador Dalí was one of the greatest exponents of surrealism and one of the most influential figures of 20th century art. Painter, sculptor, writer and tireless provocateur, he developed an unmistakable visual language in which psychoanalysis, dreams and obsession with desire and memory converge. His work continues to be an essential reference in the history of modern art.
