DESCRIPTION
After MIGUEL ANGEL BUONARROTI (Caprese, 1475-Rome, 1564), XIX century.
"Écorché".
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 23,5 x 14 x 12 cm.
Sculpture in patinated bronze representing a male écorché in kneeling attitude, following a model traditionally linked to Michelangelo and widely spread in the European academic environment.
The figure appears in marked torsion, with one leg bent and the raised arm describing an arc over the head, a gesture of intense tension that accentuates the muscular articulation and the anatomical study of the body. This is not a narrative scene, but a didactic model conceived for the analysis of the body structure, where the musculature is exposed with a clear pedagogical intention.
This type of écorchés was common in fine arts academies during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, being used as a reference for training in drawing and sculpture. The pose recalls nude studies associated with the Miguelangelesque circle, especially for the energy of the movement and the heroic conception of the human body.
The dark patina reinforces the hallmarks of light on the anatomical volumes, underlining the expressive power of the modeling. The work is a representative example of nineteenth-century academic historicism, in which admiration for the Renaissance is translated into sculptural reinterpretations intended both for teaching and for cult collectors.
