Madonna and Child
Alabaster sculpture.

Measurements: 36 cm. (height)
Refined sculpture in alabaster representing the Virgin and Child, ascribable to the workshops of Trapani, outstanding center of sculptural production in Sicily during the Modern Age, especially known for its works in translucent materials such as alabaster and coral.
The composition presents the Virgin in a serene attitude, holding the Child with a close and natural gesture, in an interpretation that combines formal elegance and intimate devotion. The soft and fluid folds, together with the delicate modeling of the faces, evidence the influence of the Italian Renaissance, still present in these late productions.
The use of alabaster, a material appreciated for its ability to capture light, gives the piece a special softness, characteristic of Trappist production. These works, of a contained format, were intended for private devotion as well as for small oratories.
It is a representative piece of Sicilian sculpture of the XVI-XVII centuries, highly valued on the market for its technical finesse and aesthetic appeal.
