The present sculpture represents a seated cat of stylized forms, clearly inspired by the statuary of Ancient Egypt, where this animal was a symbol of protection, fertility and cosmic balance, associated with the goddess Bastet. The purification of lines, the frontality and the hieratic attitude refer to pharaonic models, reinterpreted here under a modern sensibility typical of the early twentieth century. The surface has a rich patina that accentuates the volumes and adds depth to the whole.

The piece was cast by L. Rasmussen, a prestigious Copenhagen foundry active since the end of the 19th century, known for collaborating with prominent Danish sculptors. Its production is characterized by the high technical quality and care in the finishes, being placed in the context of the renewal of the European decorative arts, where the interest in ancient forms -especially Egyptian- was integrated into a modern and refined language.
