DESCRIPTION
Neapolitan School, ca. 1900.
Three erotic figures.
Bronze.
In good general condition according to the antiquity.
Measurements: 27 cm, 12 cm, 10.5 cm (heights).
Set of three bronze sculptures that illustrate scenes of erotic character, at the same time that are inspired by mythological themes. One of them refers to the Dionysian imaginary, with the representation of a satyr in playful attitude, while another develops an openly erotic scene of intertwined figures. The central piece, of vertical disposition and insinuating gesture, can be related to the iconography of Priapus, divinity linked to fertility and desire, reinforcing the suggestive and carefree character of the whole.
The Neapolitan school of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was noted for its production of small decorative bronzes, often inspired by mythological and erotic themes treated with a certain freedom and humor. These pieces, intended for private collecting, reinterpret the classical tradition from a lighter and more expressive point of view, characteristic of the artistic environment of Naples in this period.
