HENRY DROPSY (1885-1963).
Medal, 1924.
Bronze.
Measurements: 8,5 x 13 cm.
Henry Dropsy was a French artist dedicated to engraving and the art of the medal. He was formed in the École des Beaux-Arts of Paris, where he followed the academic tradition of his time and developed an outstanding technical ability from a very young age. In 1911 he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in medal engraving, a recognition that consolidated his talent and gave him great visibility in the artistic field. Throughout his career, he focused mainly on the creation of commemorative, decorative and sometimes official medals, as well as works in bas-relief, excelling especially in portraiture and compositions of a symbolic nature. His style, of classic style and great formal rigor, is distinguished by its precision and attention to detail. He also played an important pedagogical role, transmitting his knowledge and influencing new generations of medalists. Today, his figure continues to be a reference in numismatics and the art of the medal.
