BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

LUISA GRANERO SIERRA (Barcelona, 1924 - 2012)
"Dancing couple".
Bronze.
Marquina marble base.
Signed.
Measurements: 30 × 22,5 × 9 cm.

The encounter between two figures in movement vertebrates this scene, where Luisa Granero transforms the choreographic gesture in a sculptural construction of great balance. The bodies are articulated through a play of ascending lines and crossed supports that generate a sensation of impulse and lightness, in contrast with the density of the material.

The modeling, with a lively and material surface, preserves the imprint of manual labor, allowing the light to run through the piece and accentuate its dynamism. The simplification of the features and the formal reduction place the work in that characteristic territory of the artist, where the figure is stripped of the accessory to concentrate on the relationship between volume, rhythm and emotion.

The compositions of couples and groups, less frequent in Granero's production than the individual nude, acquire a special interest due to their structural complexity and their greater narrative charge.

Luisa Granero was an outstanding Spanish sculptor. Trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi, she furthered her training in Paris, where she came into contact with the work of Maillol, Despiau and Zadkine, decisive influences in her evolution.

She was the first woman professor of sculpture in Spain and a doctor of the University of Barcelona (1983), as well as an academic of the Royal Academies of San Fernando, Santa Isabel of Hungary and Sant Jordi, and a member of the National Sculpture Society of New York since 1973. Her public work includes outstanding pieces such as the reliefs of the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona and the monument to Pau Casals, as well as sculptures in Barcelona, Zaragoza and Palma de Mallorca.
