LUISA GRANERO SIERRA (Barcelona, 1924-2012).
"Reclining".
Bronze.

Marquina black marble base.
Measurements: 17 × 38,5 × 14 cm.
This reclining female figure is an excellent example of the sculptural language of Luisa Granero, focused on the representation of the body as a space of balance, intimacy and permanence. The artist approaches the nude from a contained conception, where the form is refined until it reaches a synthesis that transcends the anecdotal to place itself in a timeless environment.
The modeling, with a vibrant surface rich in nuances, keeps the gesture of the hand visible, giving the piece a tactile quality that intensifies its presence. Far from an academic idealization, Granero introduces a slight tension between weight and repose that endows the figure with naturalness and humanity.
The reclining posture, with clear Mediterranean roots, refers to a sculptural tradition that the artist reinterprets from a contemporary perspective, in dialogue with references such as Maillol or Despiau, but filtered through a process of formal simplification that seeks the essential. The result is a piece of great plastic coherence, where volume, rhythm and proportion are articulated with remarkable precision.
Luisa Granero was an outstanding Spanish sculptor. Trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi, she furthered her training in Paris, where she came into contact with the work of Maillol, Despiau and Zadkine, decisive influences in her evolution.
She was the first woman professor of sculpture in Spain and a doctor of the University of Barcelona (1983), as well as an academic of the Royal Academies of San Fernando, Santa Isabel of Hungary and Sant Jordi, and a member of the National Sculpture Society of New York since 1973. Her public work includes outstanding pieces such as the reliefs of the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona and the monument to Pau Casals, as well as sculptures in Barcelona, Zaragoza and Palma de Mallorca.
