This sculpture by Manuel Terán is a visual and conceptual synthesis between the legacy of modern art and pop art, although in this case it replaces the typographic reference with a scene full of irony and narrative tension. The compositional core is articulated around a dented Campbell's soup can, a clear allusion to Andy Warhol's universe, converted here into a symbol of consumption, repetition and mass culture. The deformation of the object introduces a break with the clean aesthetics of pop, suggesting a violent gesture or a significant alteration of the icon. In the foreground, the scene is completed with the figure of Pablo Picasso walking away as if leaving a crime scene, bat in hand. This inclusion introduces a narrative and symbolic dimension that transforms the work into a kind of contemporary allegory: the confrontation between two key moments in art history, modern art and pop art.
Manuel Terán, Chilean artist living in Spain, trained in Fine Arts and active since the 1990s. His production combines traditional media and new technologies, and has been recognized in various fields, including the Royal Academy of San Carlos in Valencia. In this work, his language is clearly manifested: a fusion of historical references, visual irony and reflection on the creative act itself.
