DESCRIPTION
Grand Tour sculpture; Italy, 19th century.
"Venus coming out of the bath".
Terracotta.
Presents restoration on the left arm.
Measurements: 42,5 x 26 x 19,5 cm.
Exquisite sculptural group in terracotta, of probable Italian invoice and dating in the XIX century, that represents Venus emerging from the bath assisted by a nymph kneeling at her feet. The goddess, of classical canon and forms of marked sensuality, appears standing on a rocky base of oval profile, with the body in soft "contrapposto" and the left arm raised gracefully; while the other figure kneeling and turned towards the goddess in reverential attitude holds a light cloth that falls in folds.
The piece responds to the neoclassical taste spread by the Grand Tour circuits, a tradition in which the Italian workshops produced compositions of free ancient inspiration destined to an enlightened and traveling clientele.
