Thibaud, artistic name of Tibor Weisz, came from a family linked to craftsmanship and decoration. After settling in Paris in 1928, he began exploring abstract painting related to the School of Paris before turning definitively towards metal sculpture, especially in aluminum. His production, marked by the influences of Bauhaus, constructivism and op art, develops an abstract and geometric plastic vocabulary in which monumental forms inspired by industrial mechanisms and architecture predominate. His sculptures are distinguished by the complexity of the assemblages, the lighting effects and the contrast between smooth, rough and grainy textures, giving rise to compositions with a strong post-industrial aesthetic that the artist himself defined as "machine-sculptures". Since the end of the 1960s he participated regularly in galleries and prominent Parisian salons, establishing himself as a relevant figure of post-war French geometric abstraction.
