DESCRIPTION
After PIERRE JULES MÈNE (Paris, 1810-1879).
"Horse".
Patinated bronze.
Signed on the front of the base.
Measurements: 18 x 25 x 10 cm.
Sculpture in patinated bronze made following models of Pierre Jules Mène, one of the main representatives of the French animalistic sculpture of the 19th century. The work represents a standing horse, arranged on an oval base with landscape elements and a rustic fence, which place the scene in a rural environment.
The figure stands out for the naturalistic treatment of the anatomy, the attention to the musculature and the expressiveness of the animal, characteristic features of the nineteenth-century animalist tradition. The modeling of the mane, the tail and the surface of the ground brings dynamism and visual richness to the whole.
Because of its equestrian theme, tabletop format and careful execution, the piece is linked to the bourgeois taste for decorative bronze sculpture, intended for collecting and interior decoration.
