This sculpture acquires a special relevance as it stands as a valuable testimony of the meaning that the SIAP Cup had at the dawn of the Art Deco period, bringing us closer to the spirit of modernity, innovation and sporting avant-garde that characterized those years.
The SIAP Cup was a prestigious Italian motorcycling trophy, of challenge character, disputed during the 1920s and 1930s in regularity and speed trials. It was linked to the famous M.A.S. firm (Motociclette Alberico Seiling), founded in Milan in 1920 by the engineer Alberico Seiling, and came to symbolize both the technical advances and the growing competitive spirit of modern motorcycling. According to the specialized press of the time, the brand definitively conquered the SIAP Cup in 1929 after stringing together several consecutive victories, thus consolidating the prestige of its motorcycles, considered among the most innovative and advanced of their time.
It represents a motorcyclist at full speed accompanied by an allegorical female figure that seems to float forward with raised arms, creating a very dynamic and theatrical composition; made in bronze with a dark marble base, it combines the refined and ornamental taste of the early twentieth century with the fascination of the time for modernity, speed and new mechanical advances such as the motorcycle.
