PEP SIRVENT (Llívia, Girona, 1957).
Untitled
Iron and granite.
Measurements: 47 x 50 x 20 cm.
A sculptural work of a constructive nature, made of iron and granite—materials closely associated with Pep Sirvent’s artistic universe and the Pyrenean landscape of La Cerdanya, the artist’s native region. The work is structured around a rectangular frame of rusted iron, traversed by curved bands that introduce movement and tension into the whole.
Sirvent reduces the composition to essential elements: block, line, curve, and material. The granite volumes, situated at the top, act as a mineral counterpoint to the dark density of the iron, generating a dialogue between weight, balance, and displacement. The piece suggests the inner workings of a mechanism or gear, without abandoning its abstract nature.
A sculptor associated with geometric and material abstraction, Sirvent has developed a body of work based on formal refinement, the dialogue between materials, and the tension between volume and space. His career includes exhibitions at the Maeght Gallery in Barcelona, Espais Centre d’Art Contemporani in Girona, and sa Llonja in Palma, and his work is represented at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani in Palma.
