DESCRIPTION
18th-century Granada school.
"Christ of Mercy"
Carved and polychrome wood.
Measurements: 21 x 20 cm (Christ), 57 x 31 cm (cross).
The small size of this Christ figure suggests that it was a piece for private devotion, likely intended for daily use by a member of the clergy or someone from a well-to-do social class. The figure depicted is a reproduction of the well-known Christ of Mercy or of Silence, a masterpiece by the genius José de Mora. This leads us to believe that the sculpture was commissioned by a resident of Granada and created by a workshop in the same city.
