Measurements: 82 x 30 x 30 cm.
Our Lady of Sorrows that fully embodies the late Baroque processional iconography. She has a face with delicate, oval features, a downcast gaze, and an expression of intense, restrained sorrow, accentuated by arched eyebrows, a slightly parted mouth, and tears in relief—characteristic elements of 18th-century devotional sculpture. The carving, conceived as a dressed image, features finely modeled hands and meticulous polychromy in the flesh tones, intended to enhance emotional realism. Likewise, the rich composition of its attributes—a silver crown and halo, a dagger or a heart set apart on the chest, lace, and a wide black velvet cloak—reflects the Baroque aesthetics and piety characteristic of the 18th century, when this type of “Dolorosa” became extraordinarily widespread in Spain for use in processions and convent worship.
