Kinetic sculpture, 20th century
Untitled.
Cut and painted iron.
Iron base.
Shows marks, scuffs, and isolated areas of lost polychrome.
Measurements: 207 x 110 x 60 cm.
Large-scale kinetic sculpture made of cut and painted iron, with a freestanding base and an upper structure articulated by chains, rods, and suspended geometric planes. The piece is organized around a large, curved, ascending red form that serves as the visual and structural axis of the whole. From this form unfolds a system of moving elements in yellow, green, gray, blue, and black, creating a dynamic interplay of balance, weight, and movement.
Its artistic language is rooted in the tradition of 20th-century kinetic art, inevitably associated with the work of Alexander Calder, who transformed modern sculpture by incorporating actual movement, suspension, and swaying as essential elements of the work. In this case, the piece draws on that kinetic legacy through cut-out planes, primary colors, and an ethereal composition that shifts subtly depending on the viewer’s perspective and the dynamics of the surroundings.
The combination of the sculptural base—with its almost totemic presence—and the suspended elements creates a tension between stability and lightness.
