A one-of-a-kind piece from Josep Puigmartí’s iconic “Alien” series, one of the Catalan artist’s most personal and recognizable creations. This sculpture represents the three-dimensional culmination of a universe the artist began in 2009. Created through Josep Puigmartí’s manual intervention on the sculptural mold, this piece possesses a one-of-a-kind character. Puigmartí conceived the series in two parts: a limited edition of 99 pieces and an exclusive selection of unique works, in which he used the same sculptural molds but personally applied the color, giving each piece its own unique identity.
The combination of surrealist forms, intense colors, and symbolic elements reflects the creative freedom of an artist in constant evolution, capable of translating into sculpture the imaginary universe he had developed in his celebrated series of paintings, “Alien Fashion,” where imaginary beings and fantastical forms become metaphors for diversity, integration, and the relationship between human beings and their environment.
Josep Puigmartí was one of the most prolific and groundbreaking artists on the European visual arts scene in the second half of the 20th century. Self-taught, he developed a career marked by experimentation, moving through Expressionism, Informalism, Surrealism, and Pop Art. Puigmartí had a dazzling but brief appearance on the Barcelona art scene, having first gained recognition in 1956 at the then-influential Syra Gallery, located in Barcelona’s Modernist Casa Batlló, with the support of art critic Sebastià Gasch in the exhibition catalog. However, he exhibited his work in venues, galleries, and museums in countries such as France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United States, China, and the United Arab Emirates.
