BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

KAIKAI & KIKI Co., Ltd.
Arhat Figures by Takashi Murakami (Tokyo, 1962).
Complete box set of twelve collectible toys.
Unopened.
Measurements: 7 cm (x2); 8 x 31 x 23 cm (display box).
Takashi Murakami has frequently drawn on the theme of the 500 Arhats, essential figures in Buddhism who represent enlightened individuals who have attained nirvana. In works such as *The 500 Arhats*, the artist reinterprets these Buddhist saints through a vibrant and energetic aesthetic, blending traditional references with a contemporary sensibility. His depictions are characterized by the use of intense colors, stylized forms, and a composition that blends the spiritual with pop culture. Furthermore, Murakami has taken this reinterpretation a step further by creating an android called the Murakami Arhat Robot, a hyperrealistic robotic figure inspired by his own image, conceived as a technological and self-referential version of an Arhat.
KaiKai and Kiki are characters from Murakami’s unique imagination, though they also serve as the image and name adopted by the KaiKai and Kiki Co. Foundation. founded by Takashi Murakami in 2001, which carried on the work of the Hiropon Factory, which was founded in 1996. Its objectives as a company are based on assisting in the production and promotion of works of art, managing and supporting young artists, and disseminating their work.
