A sculptor and poet, though he also worked in painting and drawing, Ignacio Bayarri Lluch—known as Nassio—trained under his father, Josep Maria Bayarri, at the School of Arts and Crafts in Valencia and at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in the same city, where he was awarded the Extraordinary Graduation Prize in 1952. In 1989, he was named a full member of the San Carlos Academy; in 1996, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Circle of Fine Arts; and in 2010, he received the Distinction for Cultural Merit from the Valencian Regional Government. In addition, he has been awarded the National Medal of Sculpture three times, as well as the Gold Medal at Indian Hill.
