An Orientalist-themed figure made of polychrome terracotta by Industria Artística Buxó Hermanos, one of the most prominent workshops of the Olot school around the turn of the century. The work reflects a taste for exotic themes and meticulous modeling, characteristics that distinguish the firm’s output.
The workshop was founded in 1892 in Olot (Girona) by the brothers Ignasi and Jeroni Buxó Gou, specializing in sculpture and decorative ceramics. In contrast to the traditional production of religious imagery that characterized the town, Buxó Brothers developed a style of their own, centered on polychrome terracotta figures inspired by Modernism, costumbrismo, and Orientalism. The quality of their modeling, the richness of their colors, and their attention to detail helped cement the firm’s prestige; today, their works are representative of the golden age of Catalan decorative arts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
