DESCRIPTION
GABRIEL SANZ ROMERO (Barcelona, 1954).
"Unitat hermética". 1987.
Brass and lead.
Measurements: 70 x 37 x 12'5 cm.
Gabriel began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona, although his training is eminently self-taught. He has had exhibitions at the Santa Monica Art Center, the Miró Foundation, the Joan Prats Gallery in Barcelona, the Fernando Alcolea Gallery in Barcelona and New York, the Espais Foundation in Girona and the Vila Casas Gallery in Barcelona. He has received numerous awards, including the Arts Plàstiques Generalitat de Catalunya Scholarship, Iberico 2000 Selection in Barcelona or the Vila Casas Foundation Sculpture Award in 2007. He has also taught at the Massana art school in Barcelona.
Metal (usually steel, lead, iron or aluminum) and geometric shapes are usually the protagonists of his works, which are characterized by refined and sober lines, completely removed from any figurative temptation, but with great evocative power.
Some of his most monumental sculptures can be seen in public spaces in the city of Girona, in Alquezar, Olot or Barcelona, in the Joan Miró Foundation, among others. His work is preserved in the Museum of the Castle of Perelada, the Museum of History of Girona, the Testimoni Collection of the Caixa de Pensions Foundation, the Fernando Alcolea Barcelona /N. YL Gallery, the Fons d'Art de la Generalitat de Catalunya, the Museu Fiumara d'Arte in Sicily, the Artcake in Zürich, the Eppo's Art and Culture Projects Association in Rhodes, Greece, the Caixa Forum in Barcelona and the Museu Art 2000 in Girona.
