This work belongs to one of the most representative series of Vera Lutter, German artist internationally recognized for her photographic work through the use of large format pinhole cameras, with which she records architectural spaces and industrial infrastructures from a radically refined perspective.
In this photograph, Lutter directs her gaze towards a mechanical detail - the engine of an aircraft - isolating it from its functional context and transforming it into an almost abstract form. The tight framing and tonal inversion characteristic of his process turn the object into a monumental, silent presence. The circle of the engine appears as a luminous void surrounded by dark planes, generating a tension between weight and lightness.
The surface of the image reveals glazes that seek a slow and contemplative reading. These traces of time - typical of Lutter's long exposures - reinforce the sensation of suspension and stillness, even in a place associated with constant movement such as an international airport.
It is a sober, powerful and deeply meditative work, embodying Vera Lutter's ability to transform modern infrastructure into an image of almost metaphysical character.
Vera Lutter is considered a key figure in contemporary conceptual photography, standing out for her rejection of technological immediacy and her commitment to slow, physical and meditative processes. Her work is part of important public and private collections, among them: The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
Centre Pompidou, Paris Tate Modern, London. Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg.
