Gerhard Richter's photographs are characterized by a cold, silent and apparently objective aesthetic. His photographs usually have simple, everyday and neutral frames, almost documentary, avoiding dramatism or spectacular composition. Many convey a sense of distant memory or anonymous image, reinforcing central themes in his work such as the fragility of memory, the ambiguity of reality and the difficulty of distinguishing between document and artistic interpretation.

Gerhard Richter is one of the most influential contemporary artists on the current scene, recognized for an oeuvre that oscillates between photographic hyperrealism and gestural abstraction. His painting explores the relationship between image, memory and reality, often using photographs as a basis to create blurred and silent works that convey a sense of emotional distance and fragmented memory. In parallel, he developed large abstractions full of layers of color, textures and drags made with palette knives, where he mixes chance and control with enormous technical sophistication. His style is characterized by visual ambiguity, constant research and the ability to combine conceptual coldness with an intense poetic force, becoming an essential figure of the art of the twentieth and twenty-first century. Gerhard Richter has been awarded several prizes including the Praemium Imperiale in 1997, the Wolf Prize for the Arts in Jerusalem in 1995, the Kokoschka Prize in Paris, the Academy of Arts and Letters in New York, the Arnold Bode Prize of Dokumenta and the Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale and his work can be seen in different spaces of artistic relevance such as the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Reina Sofia, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York and Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg among others.
