Created in 1994, Untitled XI is part of the series Meer und Land (Sea and Land), one of the most representative photographic projects of the research Ingeborg Lüscher conducted during the 1990s on natural processes and the limits of visual perception. In these images, the artist moves away from any descriptive conception of the landscape to focus her attention on those ephemeral phenomena that continually transform the surface of the world: foam, light, reflections, sediments, and the movement of water. The result is a series in which nature ceases to be a subject of representation and becomes a field of visual experimentation where the traditional categories of landscape, abstraction, and photography begin to blur.
Ingeborg Lüscher is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans photography, installation, video, and object-based work. Before devoting herself fully to the visual arts, she pursued a career as an actress in Germany and Switzerland. Although her artistic training was essentially self-taught, her career was closely linked to some of the major debates in European conceptual art. Since the 1970s, she has held major solo and group exhibitions at institutions in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria, and other European countries. Her work has been shown in museums such as the Kunstmuseum Bern, the Museum Tinguely (Basel), the Kunsthaus Zürich, and the Museo d’Arte della Svizzera Italiana (MASI) (Lugano), as well as in numerous galleries and centers dedicated to contemporary art. She has also participated in various projects linked to the Venice Biennale. Her work is part of major public and private collections, including those of the Kunstmuseum Bern, the Kunsthaus Zürich, the Museum Tinguely (Basel), the Museo d’Arte della Svizzera Italiana (MASI), the Fondazione Marguerite Arp, as well as various Swiss and German institutional collections dedicated to contemporary art.
