DESCRIPTION
LOUIS VUITTON.
“Padlock and Key Charm Bracelet,” 2000s.
A striking articulated bracelet crafted in 18-karat yellow gold, composed of a series of openwork links with a square profile, linked by rectangular elements with rounded edges. The boldness of the chain and the fully polished finish of the gold give the piece a striking sculptural presence.
The design is completed by a functional padlock decorated with the initials “LV” and the signature on the reverse, accompanied by a set of small keys suspended from a ring. The padlock serves as a clasp and embodies the piece’s visual identity, transforming an element traditionally associated with luggage into a motif of luxury jewelry.
It comes with an original Louis Vuitton case.
Weight: 95.25 g.
Measurements: 19 x 1 cm (bracelet); 4.2 and 2.5 cm (length of the charms)
The padlock motif is closely linked to Louis Vuitton’s origins as a manufacturer of trunks and travel goods. The House itself continues to describe its Padlock designs as a tribute to this tradition, incorporating the padlock and its key as functional and recognizable elements of its creative language.
The bracelet also fits into the context of Louis Vuitton’s early forays into jewelry: the brand introduced its first charm bracelet in 2001 and developed its first jewelry collection shortly thereafter. Its early date of creation, the exceptional weight of the gold, the fully functional nature of the padlock, and the preservation of the original case particularly enhance its appeal to collectors of designer jewelry and followers of the Maison.
