DESCRIPTION
Spanish school; late 18th century.
"Spanish Saints".
Etching on paper (x7).
Measurements: 24,5 x 18 cm; 33,5 x 21 cm (paper).
Set of seven religious portraits. All of them have the same design with the protagonist in the center framed by a border and with a legend in the inferior zone that identifies who is the main character. The scenes represent Saint Julian, Bishop of Cuenca, Saint Ildefonso Archbishop of Toledo, Saint Francis de Sales, Saint Timothy Bishop of Ephesus, Saint Peter Nolasco, Saint John Chrysostom Bishop and Saint Vincent Martyr. The scenes are part of the series of saints of the Flos Sanctorum that according to the Museo del Prado "Juan Antonio Salvador Carmona (1740-1805), made them in etching with some touches of burin. Each image represented an event in the life of the saint or an evangelical motif celebrated by the Church every day of the year. He engraved a total of 41 plates following in all of them the drawings of Antonio González Velázquez (1723-1794), which corresponded to the thirty-one days of January and the first ten days of February".
