Gantzhorn argues that the origin of the Oriental rug is not from nomadic peoples of Central Asia or Islam, but is based on the Christian traditions of the Armenian region, from antiquity to the 18th century.
"Rugs & Carpets" offers a detailed perspective on rug techniques, traditions and designs.
"Oriental Carpets" by Alberto S. de Zuloaga, part of "The World of Antiques" collection, offers a more general overview on the subject. It is a good collecting guide and a reference work.
