This piece is an excellent example of the ornamental carpentry developed in Salamanca during the 17th century, continuing its use and modifications in later times. The general structure is of carved wood, reinforced with a rich polychrome in gold and red tones, which highlights the geometry and dynamism of its forms. The front presents four drawers, each one ornamented with elaborate geometric decorations, dominated by motifs of six-pointed stars inscribed in circles, made using the technique of inlaid bone, a distinctive element of the pieces of Moorish and Mudejar influence.
The composition of each drawer front is organized symmetrically, framed by carved and gilded moldings with zigzag patterns, which give the piece a visual effect of richness and depth.
As a whole, this Salamancan wastebasket represents the synthesis between the Hispano-Moorish tradition and the emerging baroque tastes of Golden Age Spain. Its current state, which shows both its origin and possible later interventions, underscores the durability and continued appreciation of this type of furniture in cultured domestic contexts well into the Modern Age.
