BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Secrete-library. England, 18th century.
Lacquered wood with chinoiserie motifs.
Measurements: 222 x 103 x 60 cm.
Lacquered wood bookcase with chinoiserie motifs decorating the piece. Thus, pagodas, peasants and idyllic landscapes inspired by traditional Chinese painting compose genre scenes in gold that are developed in the three large drawers that houses the chest of drawers, in the hinged lid of the central body and in the doors of the bookcase, to also cover the top in the form of a truncated pyramidal pediment. The gold decorations harmonize with the metallic reflections of the keyholes. The style of the piece responds to the orientalizing taste of the 18th century that spread throughout Europe for the design of interiors, decorative objects and furniture. The upper body hides two shelves and four drawers, the front of which is also covered with chinoiserie.
