DESCRIPTION
Historicist pedestal, late 19th century.
Carved and molded wood.
It shows signs of wear consistent with its age, as well as scuffs and cracks on the top surface.
Measurements: 101 x 50 x 50 cm.
A pedestal with a distinctly architectural design, organized through a succession of prismatic sections, stepped moldings, and broken profiles. The solid quadrangular base supports a lower section with a truncated pyramidal volume, adorned with triangular appliqués, atop which rises a central shaft with a polygonal cross-section. The wide upper platform, crowned by a molded cornice, provides a setting for displaying sculptures or decorative objects of considerable presence.
The boldness of its proportions and the use of elements inspired by medieval architecture reflect the historicist taste of the late 19th century, reinterpreted here with remarkable ornamental restraint.
