DESCRIPTION
Ceiling lamp. France, first half of the nineteenth century.
Gilded bronze.
Measurements: 102 cm (diameter).
Empire style ceiling lamp. The design is articulated around a large circular ring richly ornamented with classical motifs in relief - garlands, rosettes and stylized vegetal elements - which denote a careful execution and a clear neoclassical inspiration, heir to the models of the Empire period and its subsequent evolution. From the rim depart the curved arms, with a balanced and well-proportioned profile, which support the points of light, bringing rhythm and harmony to the whole. The structure is completed with a chain suspension system, which reinforces the monumental reading of the piece and its vocation as a central element of the space. The gilding, applied uniformly, preserves a warm tone that enhances the quality of the modeling and the decorative richness of the bronze. Because of its typology and refinement, this lamp is part of the production intended for lounges and noble rooms, designed both to illuminate and to emphasize the status and sophistication of the interior. It is a decorative piece of great presence, suitable to contextualize classic or eclectic interiors, and highly appreciated in the furniture and decorative arts market of the nineteenth century.
