DESCRIPTION
Pair of Bergerés, Louis XV style; France, XIX century.
Wood and rattan Tapestry with Aubusson tapestry, 18th century.
With antique polychrome.
Measurements: 92 x 64 x 60 cm (x2).
Pair of Louis XV style bergères (, made of carved and polychromed wood, with rattan framed backs and seats upholstered with 18th century Aubusson tapestry. These pieces are fully in keeping with the decorative language of French Rococo: sinuous lines, "S" curvature of the cabriole legs, delicate floral carvings at the waist and crown, and a light silhouette.
The use of woven rattan on the backrests is a common practice in French cabinetmaking of the period, intended to visually lighten the structure. For its part, the 18th century Aubusson tapestry introduces an important historical component: these are manufactures recognized for their low-warp technique and their landscape iconography, which add a documentary and aesthetic value to the pieces.
