DESCRIPTION
PETITOT & EZAN (Jean Gauthier). Pair of Art Deco ceiling lamps, ca. 1930
Nickel-plated bronze and opaline glass.
Nickel-plated bronze frame from the Petitot workshops (Henri and Antonin Petitot).
Opalescent glassware by Jean Gauthier (EZAN).
Measurements: 80 × 84 × 84 cm (each lamp).
Important pair of large French Art Deco ceiling lamps, made around 1930, in nickel-plated bronze and opaline glass, the result of collaboration between the Petitot workshops, responsible for the metal frame, and the prestigious EZAN glassworks, founded by Jean Gauthier, specialized in high quality opalescent glass during the interwar period.
Each lamp is organized around a stepped central axis in fluted opaline glass, topped by a nickel-plated bronze soffit, from which radial arms support cups and molded opalescent glass elements. The ensemble generates a soft, balanced and homogeneous illumination, fully representative of the best French Art Deco design.
The Petitot workshops, led by Henri and Antonin Petitot, distinguished themselves in France in the 1920s and 1930s for the technical excellence and formal rigor of their bronze frames, especially in the field of Art Deco decorative lighting. Their productions are characterized by a refined architectural language, geometrically inspired, and by the use of metallic finishes -such as nickel plating- that bring sobriety and modernity to the whole.
The EZAN glassworks, founded by Jean Gauthier, was one of the most renowned French houses in the production of molded opalescent glass, highly appreciated for its ability to diffuse light in a uniform and enveloping way. Its pieces, often associated with the best frames of the period, stand out for the quality of the material, the precision of the molding and the elegance of their profiles.
A work of great rarity, especially for being preserved in pairs, originally conceived for high-level representative spaces and today highly valued by collectors and interior design projects looking for historical pieces with a strong architectural presence.
