DESCRIPTION
Louis XV style mirror; France, XIX century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Measurements: 133 x 90 cm.
This elegant French Louis XV style mirror, made in the 19th century, is a magnificent historicist reinterpretation of the French rococo of the 18th century. It presents all the characteristic elements of Louis XV taste: curved and asymmetrical lines, far from classical rigidity. Abundant decoration of: scrolls, acanthus leaves, vegetal motifs and rockery. Highly developed and openwork upper copete, typical of the rococo language. Sensation of continuous movement throughout the molding.
In the 19th century there was a great recovery of historical styles, especially under the eclectic taste of the Second Empire and the European bourgeoisie, who demanded furniture and mirrors inspired by aristocratic models of the 18th century.
