Important suspension lamp in "pâte de verre" by Émile Gallé (1846-1904), conceived as a circular ceiling lamp with a curved profile in bent glass. It features a refined acid-etched and partially carved decoration, revealing an exquisite play of reliefs and transparencies. The ornamental motif, of great naturalistic richness, represents red roses in full bloom that unfold on a background tinged with soft yellows. Three chains, held in place by bronze hooks, support the piece, which is topped by a bronze cover that takes up and extends the vegetal motifs characteristic of Art Nouveau. When illuminated, the work acquires an almost pictorial quality, as the light intensifies the red and gold hues, evoking the warmth and chromatic depth of a sunset.

Émile Gallé began his professional career in the workshop of his father, owner of a glass and ceramics factory, where he started making floral and heraldic designs. From a very young age he showed a deep interest in botany, a discipline he studied rigorously in parallel to his training in drawing, and which would become one of the main sources of inspiration for his work.

Between 1862 and 1864, on his father's initiative, he undertook several trips to Italy, England and Germany. These stays were decisive in his training, as they awakened his interest in both the applied arts and in areas that would later leave a deep mark on his artistic production. On his return, he settled in Meisenthal, where the family furnaces were located, with the aim of fully mastering the glassmaking trade. He also traveled to London and Paris to study firsthand the collections of their museums.

In 1874 he took over the management of the family business and, in a few years, achieved remarkable international recognition. His works were awarded prizes at various universal exhibitions and became part of prestigious public and private collections. Today, Gallé's works are kept in first-class institutions such as the Hermitage Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Musée d'Orsay, the Bröhan Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among many others.
