DESCRIPTION
JEAN-JACQUES ARGUEYROLLES (France, 1954).
Brutalist console. France, 1996.
Cast iron.
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 84,5 x 116 x 39,5 cm.
Brutalist console made by Jean-Jacques Argueyrolles in 1996, in cast iron worked with a marked sculptural will. The piece stands out for its bare and expressive structure, where the material acquires prominence through rough surfaces, dark patinas and golden hallmarks.
The board, with irregular edges, rests on an architectural base of taut lines and stylized, almost totemic supports. The combination of dark iron and gold elements lends an archaizing and ceremonial presence.
Its design is somewhere between functional furniture and sculpture, with a conception very close to the artistic object. Jean-Jacques Argueyrolles, born near Paris in 1954, is a self-taught sculptor and designer who works with materials such as bronze, iron, stone and wood. His work, influenced by references such as Tàpies, Dalí and Henry Moore, is characterized by the expressive transformation of matter.
