The table is a fine example of the revival of traditional Boulle-style furniture during the Second French Empire. This technique, popularized by André-Charles Boulle during the reign of Louis XIV, combined cut-out sheets of tortoiseshell and metal to form arabesques, plant scrollwork, and compositions with intense hallmarks.

The decorative scheme is characteristic of the eclectic taste of the Napoleon III era. Louis XIV-style marquetry coexists with the serpentine profile of the tabletop, the cabriole legs, and Rococo-inspired motifs, such as acanthus leaves, volutes, and undulating profiles. The gilded bronze inlays serve both a protective and a sculptural function. The apron is dominated by a classical-style female mask, framed by scrollwork, flowers, and fruit, while the knees of the legs feature anthropomorphic drapery with female heads, extended by plant motifs down to the feet. This type of mount was common in Boulle furniture from the Napoleon III period and reinforced its sumptuous and stately appearance.

Its convertible mechanism is characteristic of parlor furniture: when closed, it functions as a side table, while the swiveling and folding top reveals the surface intended for gaming. The continuity of the marquetry across the tabletop, the apron, and the legs makes the piece a work of striking decorative presence, designed to occupy a prominent place in an interior.
