BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Pair of Empire candlesticks modeled after CLAUDE GALLE (1759-1815). France, XIX century.
Gilded and chiseled bronze.
They show wear.
Measurements: 26,5 x 13 x 13 cm.

The excellent quality of execution and the eminent design of this pair of candlesticks allow us to relate them to the renowned master bronze artist Claude Galle (1759-1815). They rest on a circular base decorated with palmettes and have a truncated conical fluted shaft, narrower towards the top and narrower towards the bottom.

According to a memorandum dated December 23, 1809, the famous bronze artist Claude Galle supplied the Garde-Meuble with two pairs of identical candelabra for the Salon des Princes in the imperial apartments in the Grand Trianon. Likewise, the documentation records the delivery of another pair of identical workmanship to the Palace of Fontainebleau on May 30, 1806, pieces that by 1810 were located in the first salon of the Emperor's apartments.
