Vivien Leigh used these folding glasses in one of the scenes starring alongside Lee Marvin in the film "The Ship of Fools". In this scene, the sophisticated Mary Treadwell (Vivien Leigh) shares a table with Bill Tenny (Lee Marvin), an American baseball player with whom she has a relaxed conversation, while browsing the restaurant menu using these glasses. The scene takes place in the dining room of the ship bound for the German port of Bermenhaven before World War II.
Vivien Leigh's last film, "Ship of Fools" was directed by Stanley Kramer and starred Vivien Leigh, Simone Signoret, José Ferrer, Lee Marvin and Oskar Werner, along with a large cast. The film won two Oscars in 1966: for best black and white cinematography (Ernest Laszlo); and for best set design and art direction (Robert Clatworthy and Joseph Kish). It also received the 1966 National Board of Review Award for Best Actor (Lee Marvin); and the 1965 NYFCC Award for Best Actor (Oskar Werner).
