DESCRIPTION
Frame for mirror or painting, XVIII century
Carved, polychrome and gilded wood.
Exhibits sligthly wear consistent with age and use and light wear.
Measurements: 35,5 x 35,5 cm (light); 66 x 66 cm.
Frame of octagonal format, richly decorated with carved elements of vegetal inspiration and rocaille, typical of the late baroque or rococo language.
The quality of the carving and the ornamental richness suggest a piece conceived not only as a functional element, but as an integral part of the work it framed, contributing to its scenographic character. This type of frame was common in refined decorative contexts, where the play of light on the gilding intensified the visual effect of the whole.
