Seafoam pipes (meerschaum) are very appreciated pieces for their aesthetics and unique properties: they are made of a white, very light and porous mineral (magnesium silicate), which is easily carved, allowing very detailed designs, from classic shapes to elaborate figures; being porous, they absorb moisture and tobacco residues, offering a drier and smoother smoke than wooden ones, and with use they change color from white to yellow, amber or brown tones, which increases their appeal; they usually have mouthpieces made of amber or similar materials and are valued by both smokers and collectors.
