Charles Brennus was an engraver, sculptor and medalist, closely linked to the world of sport, especially rugby. He was born in Paris and trained in the decorative arts, developing a solid career as an artist specialized in the creation of medals, trophies and metal works. His technical skill and refined style allowed him to excel in this field. However, his greatest recognition comes from his relationship with rugby. He was one of the founders of the Stade Français and actively participated in the diffusion of this sport in France at the end of the 19th century. He also collaborated with the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques (USFSA), one of the first sports organizations in the country. In 1892, he designed the famous Brennus Shield (Bouclier de Brennus), the trophy awarded to the champion of the French rugby championship. This shield, created in collaboration with Baron Pierre de Coubertin, has become one of the most emblematic symbols of sport in France.
