DESCRIPTION
Frame; Spain, XVII century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Measurements: 54 x 42 cm; 76 x 64 cm.
This 17th century Spanish frame, made of carved and gilded wood, is an eloquent example of Baroque decorative taste. Its structure is enriched with a profuse ornamentation of vegetal scrolls and sinuous forms, which generate a dynamic and enveloping effect, characteristic of Baroque aesthetics. The gilding, applied with the gold leaf technique, enhances the play of light and shadow on the carved surface, giving the whole a sumptuous and solemn appearance. he presence of dark reserves in contrast with the gilding intensifies its plastic value and evidences a decorative sensitivity typical of the Hispanic production of the period.
