DESCRIPTION
Louis XV-style mirror. Spain, ca. 1950
Carved and gilded wood.
It has a label on the back: “Casa Cruz Linares 15, Seville.”
Measurements: 137 x 95 cm.
Spanish mirror crafted from carved and gilded wood in the Louis XV style. The piece features a vertical frame with a mixtilinear profile, a beveled central panel, and a richly decorated upper section featuring rocaille motifs, scallop shells, flowers, and plant motifs.
The top molding features the most elaborate ornamentation, with a symmetrical and dynamic composition that lends lightness and movement to the whole piece. The sides, decorated with scrollwork and carved flowers, extend the curvilinear rhythm of the frame and reinforce its decorative character.
The warm-toned gilding highlights the relief of the carving and gives the mirror an elegant, dramatic presence. Due to its size and rich ornamentation, this piece is particularly well-suited for classically inspired entryways, living rooms, or bedrooms.
