BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

PABLO PICASSO (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, France, 1973).
"Maternity".
Lithograph.
With facsimile signature and numbering.

Quality lithograph of an iconic work from Pablo Picasso's Blue Period, usually titled "Maternity" or "Mother and Child". It is based on an original painting from 1903. Between 1901 and 1905, Picasso made variations on this theme.

The figures are elongated, with thin hands and protective gestures that recall the influence of El Greco. Picasso intended to reflect the harshness of the life of the humble classes, transforming an everyday scene into an almost sacred image, similar to a "Virgin and Child".

In short, this lithograph is a graphic translation of one of the most emblematic themes of the blue Picasso, where motherhood becomes a universal symbol of comfort and humanity in the face of suffering.
