OBEY (Shepard Fairey, Charleston, 1970).
"Peace Fingers Geometric," 2024.
Silkscreen.
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 91.5 x 61 cm.
In "Peace Fingers Geometric", the artist reinterprets the iconic gesture of the V for peace through a geometric composition of strong visual impact. The image combines the ornamental silhouette of the hand, decorated with floral and arabesque motifs, with a structure of overlapping triangular planes that fragment the space and dynamize the composition. The balance between recognizable iconography and geometric abstraction is representative of OBEY's visual language, where the symbolic message is integrated with an aesthetic inherited from poster art, design and contemporary urban art.
Frank Shepard Fairey, OBEY, is an American urban artist and graphic designer, famous, among other projects, for the iconic "Hope" poster used by Barack Obama during his presidential campaign. He began his career in street art in the late 1980s and achieved international renown for his graphic style inspired by political propaganda, constructivism and pop culture. His work addresses themes such as power, peace, social justice and freedom of expression, and has been disseminated both in the public space and in graphic editions and exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world.
